Guest Speakers Gyna Bivens D-5 Councilwoman Sandi Beraux District Director
Topics Will be a general discussion of District 5 and JTWNA area issues, including active and upcoming zoning cases, increased traffic issues and potential solutions.
This a perfect opportunity for JTWNA members and area residents to hear directly from your District 5 City Council person and ask important questions on issues that effect our area and residents.
With our last several JTWNA meetings being held on Zoom, this is a great opportunity to get back to in-person, face-to-face meetings.
August 31, at 7pm, John T. White Members and citizens are invited to a meeting to discuss a proposed Zone Change ( ZC-21-131) on a 5.2 acre property located at 8661-8689 John T. White Rd. This property is located on the northeast corner of JTW and Randol Mill Rd. The property being discussed is currently zoned E Neighborhood Commercial, and the developer who purchased it well aware of the current E zoning designation. Nevertheless, and with no communications with the JTWNA, he has filed to request a Zoning Change to R-2 Townhouse Cluster. The JTWNA position is that this valuable, and perfectly placed commercial property is CORRECTLY ZONED as Neighborhood Commercial, and is in accordance with the Council Initiated Zoning Plan we worked with D-5 Councilwoman Gyna Bivens to create. Members of the Bentley Village HOA and our JTWNA will meet at 7PM Tuesday August 31 at the Iglesia de Dios Church at the eastern end of John T. White Rd (the former Health and Raquet Club building) The address is 9065 John T. White Rd. Please feel free to attend this Official JTWNA meeting whether you are a John T. White Neighborhood Association Member or just a concerned area resident.
JTWNA is proud to announce the FW City Council voted in favor to authorize staff to acquire 840 Cooks Lane. This acquisition doubled the size of Cobblestone Trail Park by adding 24 acres to it. We understand the intent is for the site to remain wooded with passive recreation. JTWNA was successful in working with David Cooke or City Manager, Council Woman Gyna Bivens and the Mayor to save hundreds of old growth Blackjack and Post Oaks from falling into the hands of developers looking to bulldoze this area to make way for starter homes. Thank you to everyone that participated in writing letters and supported this endeavor.
Off the beaten path, Daniel Serralde spent many days in the last month behind bushes watching over the trees and its destruction. He has been told off by the construction workers several times for attempting to trespass.
Yet, he kept coming back to check on the trees until a couple weeks ago when there were none left to look at at the Mockingbird Estates site.
“I speak for the trees. That’s what I’m doing,” said Serralde, a neighborhood resident and environment advocate. “The trees are silent, but right now these trees need our help.”
We’re excited to announce that the City Council will be voting on Tuesday, December 1 at 7:00 pm, to authorize staff to acquire 840 Cooks Lane from Fort Worth ISD. The developer who had the property under contract backed out after meeting with JTWNA when they realized the neighborhood would not support a zoning change that would allow the developer to bulldoze all of this beautiful trees and cram in apartments or 100’s of houses. This acquisition would double the size of Cobblestone Trail Park by adding 24 acres to it. I understand the intent is for the site to remain wooded with passive recreation. Please visit TheJTWNA.com. We need you to help us by writing letters in support of this exciting news, or speak at council. THIS IS NOT A DONE DEAL! Sign up with a FREE account with JTWNA so we can contact you by email with details on how you can help us make this happen.
What would JTWNA like to see on the vacant piece of land at the NE corner of Cooks Lane and I-30?
We have an opportunity to offer one of the last desirable group of
properties to an investor willing to build the next master-planned,
mixed-use development.
The area is on a direct line from Fort
Worth to Dallas on I-30. We are close to the mega entertainment area of
Arlington with Stadiums & Amusement Parks but lacks a development
like this.
Many other areas have successfully created these master-planned destinations. Why not us.
This land WILL be developed sooner than later. What you you like to see?
